jay-alvarez-ux-ui-front-end-development

I am a freelance digital designer, UX consultant and digital artist with over 10 years experience of designing and developing complex, user-centred web-based systems with particular experience within the international development sector whilst working for Aptivate. I’m now looking for new creative opportunities.

I have worked on a variety of projects to create interactive maps, emergency response news aggregators, monitoring and evaluation dashboards, knowledge sharing portals, mentoring schemes and organisational websites for clients such as the WWF, Unicef and WaterAid.

I help clients communicate user needs as requirements through on-location, participatory discovery workshops which feed into an Agile development process. Using open source tools, I work closely with developers to create graphic and paper prototypes as well as direct front-end development in HTML/ CSS/ JavaScript where needed. Find out more

As an artist I work with ecology, mind, cultural and gender diversity around open access to technology. My work includes the interactive installation ‘Stroke’ that was shortlisted for funding by the Wellcome Trust’s SciArt initiative and subsequently shown at ISEA (International Symposium of Electronic Arts), and ‘Softworld’, an interactive modular textile installation which encourages people to work together to create forms collaboratively, and was shown at The Lowry.
